GCCC Phi Theta Kappa Names Two Students to 2023 All-Kansas Academic Team

Garden City Community College has named Nicole Ruda and Keatyn Harden to the All-Kansas Academic Team for 2023.

Alpha Xi Upsilon, Garden City Community College’s chapter of the society, will honor members Ruda and Harden during a luncheon and ceremony in Junction City on April 14, 2023. Kansas is one of 39 states participating in the All-State Academic Team program.

The state academic teams are a division of the All-USA Community College Academic Team. The All-USA Team Academic Team recognizes academic achievement, leadership, and community service among the top community college students. The Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees, and the presidents of the state’s community colleges sponsor the All-Kansas Academic team. Students were nominated by their respective college and are now eligible for the All-USA Academic Team.

Nicole Ruda is a Communication Sciences and Disorders major. She is from Holcomb, Kansas, and is the daughter of Ryan and Amanda Ruda. Nicole plans to transfer to Fort Hays State University. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Christian Challenge.

Keatyn Harden is a Biology major. She is from Patterson, Louisiana, and her parents are Marty and Dana Harden. Keatyn plans to transfer to Louisiana State University. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is on the Broncbuster Softball Team.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is the national honor society of the two-year college. Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA or better to be accepted to the organization. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is the promotion of scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified students.
