Cost of college went up for all students at Seward County Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.3 percent for 2018-19 at Seward County Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kansas residents paid $3,200 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $160 more than the $3,040 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 37 percent more than residents this year, or $4,384. Their price tag grew 3.8 percent from $4,224 in 2017-18.

About 58 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kansas residents. And about 32 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 89 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 223 students received grants or scholarships totaling $842,815 and 57 students took out student loans totaling more than $221,035.

Including all undergraduates (1,870), 679 students used grants or scholarships totaling $3.6 million, and 159 students took out $665,660 in federal student loans.
