Cost of college went up for all students at Garden City Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.5 percent for 2018-19 at Garden City Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kansas residents paid $3,240 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $168 more than the $3,072 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 17.6 percent more than residents this year, or $3,810. Their price tag grew 3.5 percent from $3,680 in 2017-18.

About 70 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kansas residents. About 24 percent are residents of other states and 6 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 399 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.9 million and 147 students took out student loans totaling more than $581,091.

Including all undergraduates (1,917), 1,407 students used grants or scholarships totaling $5.8 million, and 369 students took out $1.7 million in federal student loans.
