Men's Basketball Tops Coffeyville in Overtime Thriller

In a Top 25 battle the Dodge City men's basketball team knocked off the #6 Coffeyville Red Ravens at home 111-100 in an overtime thriller to make it three in a row in the win column in the series.

The Conquistadors made it six-straight wins to move to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in KJCCC with the win over the Red Ravens.

After scoring the initial bucket of the contest the Conqs saw Coffeyville go on a 7-0 run and work an early lead to a 15-6 margin just five minutes into the first half. The lead grew to as high as 12-points in the first half for Coffeyville, but the Conqs continually pushed back cutting the lead down to three late in the first half but trailed 49-40 at intermission. The hot shooting by both teams continued to be on display in the second half and Coffeyville would hold onto the lead until just under 13 minutes left in regulation when the Conqs took their first lead of the second half at 64-62 on a Chris Robinson three-pointer. The lead would go back-and-forth throughout the rest of the contest and free throws down the stretch by both teams tied the game up at 92-92. The Conqs would have the final shot of regulation, but a three-point try would not fall pushing the game to overtime.

Coffeyville scored the first point of the overtime period, but the Conqs answered by scoring 10-straight points to take control and held off Coffeyville in overtime to grab the 111-100 win. The overtime contest is the third game this season the Conqs have went to overtime in and are 2-1 in those games.

Conqs had their best shooting night of the season shooting 51.4% from the floor and finished 27-33 from the charity stripe using those numbers to overcome Coffeyville's hot shooting night as the Red Ravens shot 54.1% from the floor but was just 22-38 from the free throw line.

Jason Edwards continues his spectacular stretch for the Conqs pouring out a career-best 37 points on 10-18 shooting and 12-13 from the free throw line (he is 37-42 from the line on the season and 24-25 in the last three games). Chris Robinson notched a new career-high with 23 points on 9-16 shooting including 4-6 from three-point range and added five assists, four steals, and four rebounds. Jacobi Sebock also had a career night for the Conqs finishing with 22 points on 7-14 shooting and 7-8 from the charity stripe while finishing with a double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds. DJ Jones chipped in 14 points, with five assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

The Conqs head to Liberal on Saturday, November 26th to take on Seward County at 4:00 pm to continue the season.
