McVey Named KCKCC Athletic Director

Shakehand

Kansas City Kansas Community College has announced Greg McVey as the new athletic director at the college. He will begin May 15.

"We are incredibly pleased to welcome Greg back to Kansas and KCKCC," said Dr. Chris Meiers, vice-president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. "Greg is just the person to move KCKCC's athletics programs and our student-athletes forward to even greater heights."

At KCKCC, McVey will be responsible for leading Blue Devil athletics, which includes overseeing eight NJCAA teams – men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, baseball, softball and men's golf.

"Greg brings a passion for student athletics and bold, visionary skills that will propel championship culture at KCKCC," said KCKCC President Dr. Greg Mosier. "As a proud member of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, we are energized to go into the next era of KCKCC athletics with Greg at the helm."

McVey has spent 30 years working in intercollegiate athletics at several levels including the NJCAA, NAIA and NCAA, giving him a broad perspective on the role athletics plays in higher education.  His most recent position is athletic director at Santa Fe College, a position he has held since 2021. In his first year with the Saints, Santa Fe won the Men's Basketball Central Conference crown and qualified for the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Tournament. McVey has also taken on administrative roles as a member of the Executive Committee for the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators. Additionally, he was named the chair for the Mid-Florida/Central Conference and the FCSAA Softball State Chair for 2022-24.

Previously, McVey served as athletic director at Garden City Community College where he oversaw 15 intercollegiate programs, two fitness centers and the college's intramural program. While there he also led the initiative to install a new, digital scoreboard in the college's arena and was part of a team that secured a $300,000 grant from the Sunderland Foundation for the complete remodel of two athletic-training facilities.

"I want to thank Dr. Chris Meiers and the search committee for selecting me to lead Blue Devil Athletics," McVey said. "KCKCC has a rich academic and athletic tradition, and I am looking forward to working with the athletic staff and the campus community to provide our student-athletes a quality athletic and academic experience. My family and I are looking forward to returning to Kansas and being part of an amazing community."

As a baseball student-athlete, McVey earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Ind. and a master's degree in Sports Administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. At Miami, he began his career as a graduate assistant baseball coach and recorded 282 wins as a head coach at Miami University-Middletown, Kentucky Wesleyan College and Quincy University over 11 seasons.
