Jack LeRoy Christiansen died on June 29, 1986, at age 57. He was born in Sublette, Kansas, in 1928. He played eight seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions as a safety and return specialist. He helped the team win three championships and was selected All-NFL six times. Christiansen set an NFL record with eight career punt return touchdowns. He later became a coach in both college and professional football. He served as head coach for the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford University. He also held assistant coaching roles with the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Atlanta Falcons. Christiansen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1970. He began life in Sublette and spent part of his youth in Colorado. His achievements in football continued for over three decades. He retired from coaching in 1984 due to illness. His career left a clear mark on the sport.
